Ssshhhuckalaka baby!

Time is making fools of us again. When has it ever been fair anyway?

Being in the here and now, i try looking back through the 10 or so months of flimsy memories and it becomes pretty clear to me how daunting it is to attempt condensing this whole year.

First thing that comes back to me as sharp as the images of reality (cos it is) is my newfound job. Every other little thing that has differed in my routine has some impact on my lifestyle and self. I’ve been on the right and wrong end of a Tebori needle and i suppose i’ve glint something from what not to do. Still, i’ve gone through pretty noisome episodes and i’m still none too clear about where each wrong has made its right.

The next case (for want of a better word) this year is of course the lovely piece of property that nicholas and i purchased earlier in july. I remember those teatime sessions in the star cafeteria, where we held earnest conversations about the house. The topics we covered ranged from pricing, porch tiles, contemporary bathrooms, crafty yet practical interiors, dobby’s living area and letting space for nic’s fish imports, making meals and doing laundry together... Sigh, my eyes are becoming a little glazed over this as my fingers chicken type across the page...how’s that for a start!

But of course this isn’t really a start for me, per say. After all, i moved like a nomad from jb to klang, to Australia, then back to klang (but in a different camp), then to subang where yours truly had to oversee contractors for renovations and buy all the thingajigs to furnish the whole house. Doing up a house in terms of rectifying and beautifying can be a right pain in the crack bone, i can tell you that. Never mind the vision of a charming home and its pleasing innards, irritation knows no boundaries. Thankfully, this happy burden falls onto both nic and me to shoulder, so its gonna be a 50-50 snowjob this coming Christmas. Heave-ho, heave-ho! Hehe :)

Neways, Pohlin and i plan to be fly away end of December so that we can laze around on the beach and wave away irksome guys like flies :P Ocos we gonna tan until every pore is filled with grains of paradise sand! Hehehohohaha. We’re gonna eat yummy good food, prance around, do some pub hopping, prance around summore, swim, hopefully make some decent friends... yeayy! The closer it draws nearer to December the more excited i feel! Me feels the tinglings in me spines!

More on the happenings later when the New Year comes. Meantime, we’ll breathe in and out all day along, laugh, heave an occasional sigh, fart, cry, grumble, sigh, and start it all over again... until the next big thing comes along.

Till then folks, l e t s
HO...HO...HO TO A JINGLY CHRISTMAS
&
AN EXPLOSIVE NEW YEAR!

langkawi-ed

I expected a fun weekend of sun, sand and sea for our langkawi trip. Yea it turned out to be all that... and then some! Woohoo!!! You have no idea ;)

Twas a whirlwind of fun and late nights that induced magnificent panda eyes and a head full of pretty white clouds. No complaints whatsoever, we met lots of interesting people...and at the end of the weekend managed to make stampduty with some rather alright people from there :) The people i wanna put the spotlight on in particular are... Aush...(so far still quite decent...so heres a shoutout to him: yo de laheehoo!) and 2 other real decent men we met in sunba - cool place, dat. Gotta catch up with them sooooon. I'm guessing bel and i just basked in the lavishness of fun and attention we got out of whom we shall refer to as our "coastal friends"... hehe.

I think bel and i made the right decision to take off that unbelievable though short-lived weekend. Those times made me feel so wildly happy... might be due to the smell of sand and the free tide, but then again perhaps i just felt the need to go akimbo. To leave kl in my pursuit of proper insanity and happiness, if ya know what i mean.

The rebel in me enjoyed the late hours immensely. Kinda reminded me of my Australian days when i boozed on the car porch and neighbours would give me a shoutout in the evenings as i dwaddled the time away beside Oscar, my friends' ex-pooch. It didnt matter that i hardly ever saw the sun rise or set.

Back to being langkawi-ed, i must reiterate what a whirlwind weekend it was man. Time and tide really waits for no 'man'...so to each her own i say, and ahoy we go! We shot a fair few rounds of pool; Bel in the lead of course :) It isnt any one time and place that my body manages to relax and ease its knots of tension. I miss that slow-paced that we ran through at a gallop... twas a time i felt so wantonly free!

It was there and then (on the last afternoon unfortunately) that i fully understood the ideals of living on location where the home chooses you. I'm kinda jealous because i probably dont hv the guts to tear down the concrete safety walls of kl and move on to oblivion and bliss. If i could find that courage deep inside somewhere, id be there in erm, 2weeks :P

In any case, my weekend stint taught me something i quite forgot, and that is to "enjoy each moment as it comes" I gotta (try and) see to it that its less of Ms Got-A-Bug-Up-Her-Arse and more of the Geisha in action from now on...city slattern, perhaps? Keke...anyhoo pix below, enjoy!

missy having a hullabala time after some tanning

spindly and crawly when alive...and yummily sweet and beautiful when steamed! hehe

the most beautiful fat prawns this jakoon ever seen and tasted...we kept swooning over it man!

the Yellow Café man himself, and yours truly! a privilege to be sure :)

aush and ms cool-as-cucumber

miss janice in person to investigate this cool Yellow Café to see what kind of a hjinks it can get me up to :P

pretty belle bel enjoying our last afternoon at the café by the beach

Already i'm planning my next trip and ive only been back nearly 3 days... well life's an adventure right and dont hold your breath, cos the trains leavin' and im ON it!

wave me over, anytime

Not feeling all that chirpy these few days, but seeing as ive promised the bali trip update...here it comes!!!(pfffft).

As i enter a title for my latest entry here about the recent bali trip, suddenly many things come to mind. I'm caught almost unawares by the fact that my previous trip(in '07) and my recent one (this June) were both accompanied by my then, and current partner. I dare say that this trip was definitely more exciting and a whole lot more fun... maybe its because id been there just the last year, no? And i had already become quite acquainted with Kuta and that certain stretch of white sands near Jimbaran.

This time my darlingest journeyed with me of cos, along with my parents, and we had quite a trip, though we were all lamenting that those few days werent enough towards the last afternoon. My only regret was not submerging myself amidst those icy, surging waves earlier...we 2 couples only had about half a day on the beach thats all. My mum and dad didnt bother getting wet in the waves, and proceeded to get pampered on the sand (on blankets we had to buy mind you!) with manicures, pedicures, full-body massages and of course bottles of iced teh botol to quench the thirst brought on by the unforgiving rays of mister sun. I've put some pictures below (with captions naturally) so that you can hopefully grasp a little of the feel we went through there before you get to yours later this year *grin*

breakfasting the next morning. i specifically remember our table praising the pork bacon to the skies...yummy and authentic, not like the rubbishy stuff we get at most of our hypermarts (you call that bacon?!?) After feasting, we adventured towards kuta square in search of that long-awaited massage and also to nip a few shopping bargains along the waaay

going through my 2nd childhood as i swing myself crazy in th children's playground. wheeeeee!

getting ready to tan by the resort pool

once our toes gripped onto the sands, i tell you, all that sun couldnt burn out the pure ecstasy in us as we played like kids in the cold water :)

haha...my bebe also got "cold feet" himself whilst trying to get me to sink to my waist in the icy waters! In th end...we both sunk in and boy, was that some adventure for urbanites like us!

And so, we've come to the end of a little show n tell that coulda gone on and on (too many pix la)... but good things have to come to an end, and im sure as hell gonna make it happen again...s o o n...

one of the more memorable parties yet!

I know i havent been bloggin for a while now...sorry ohk! Anyways, many phases of developments and incidents have passed since the previous melaka trip update! I'd just like to highlight a few memorable events such as my sister's baby shower, my bali trip with my darling and parents...and then some.

As for throwing a baby shower, i remember having to squeeze some time aside to "get the party started". I certainly did not have prior experience to throwing a party, what more a shower to welcome my soon-to-arrive nephew! :) I set about doing a lil research on the net to draw up a baby shower invitation, sms/email/reply to these invitees...luckily i found a really cute baby boyish picture background which i could simply edit some of the corners, colours, insert the date/time/venue/agenda/etc, and also this little poem that i whipped up (with suggestions from mama bear of cos):

It'll be raining mittens and booties at this baby shower
So mark this date down and give me a holler
Thrown in honour of James and Kristie Tan
Your presence is requested to anticipate their new Mister Tan
So come along and skip to our beat
As we welcome their little king with many new treats!

Of course we had to throw a party proper, so everybody was delegated to do something. My parents took care of the f&b and also got the proud soon-to-be-parents a beautiful cot. My step sis-in-law literally just drew up some games, while kristie, me, james and my bebe had to go search for prizes and gaming items. Might as well as give the task back to us, aint that right LAZY? :P My step bro was also informed at the eleventh hour to step in as a games mediator and i got to say he executed it beautifully. The night went on really well, most of the guests who came were away for a while and then back in kl so it was a real chump to see em :) We ended up singing karaoke with some of kitty's colleagues until about 2am++...yeah man. So without further ado, i've put a coupla pix below to give yall a 'feel' of what it was like that day!

James, the proud papa-to-be, helps himself to yummylicious food & beverage

papa and mama bears

yours truly, kitty and mummy cheesing for the camera amidst squeals of "wah you all really look like sisters hor"...

me transferring cottonballs to an empty bowl, spoonful by spoonful. me is the only contestant that tooks the longest! grrrrrrr

kitty slicing up some 'thanks 4 coming to James & Kristie's baby shower' banana chocolate cake

and then we sang the night away...we continued to sing after the guests left :)

A searin' good time in Malacca (16 to 17 Feb)

The idea about making a short weekend getaway actually stemmed from rachel's pre-term start at uni...and of course the ever-tightening budget. I put some pictures below to update you guys in a show-tell manner...so scroll on and enjoy!
Kristie and Rachel posing for my cam whilst we waited for the slow Babas to snail through the check-in process for all visitors that day...

Rachel lookin' all pweety and plum blossomy :)

All washed up, fresh and ready to rumble along Jonker street the next morning!

And we walked, and we walked, and we walked all day...with our determined heels and zest for shopping...on we persevered!

Then i came across this fascinating looking temple with rather-4D designs on their pillars and walls... posed quickly for my cam cos i was worried the worshippers might come marching out! Heheee...

And then we walked until we neared the Fort, which was bustling with activites and trishaws and radiantly coloured to lift the mood of the town...ermm, and then mat poser came out again.

We stopped for some delicious cendol that made the 3 of us swoon almostly indecently in delight. HEHEH...

This was the 2nd round of icy indulgences that we just couldnt turn a blind tastebud to. Kristie was the only one who ordered a mango something, which was uniquely different from our same, boring but ooh-la-la choices! See, the 3 of us had to squeeze onto our spot at the corner of a small table becos the kiasus took up positions already. Vell, anyway its still good to learn how we werent the only ones who condemn the kiasus! :D

Our last stop for that short weekend was for some chicken rice balls that malacca is quite renowned for. Well, we had some of that at some K-something kopitiam where we went through some trial and errors and you know, i aint going back there again! Prefer the 2nd restaurant along Jonker Walk.

All in all, we fought valiantly through the throngs of kiasus, bore the heat, shopped to fitness and ate to put it all back on. I'd definitely go back again for a nighter!

When St Valentine was executed

Yea here's a lil update on my celebration of the executing of that Valentine guy.
Anyways, we, like most commercialised couples of today, decided to squander some dough on D day to revel in cupid's atmosphere. So, bebe and i went to Italiannies for their Vday dinner sets, which were really quite something!!

Italiannies lost precious brownie points with us though because of baaaad time management. BAD. Seats were lined up outside te restaurant for most of the 730s. See, their dinner slots were scheduled at 630, 730 and 830. So obviously they were all of a fluster when the 630s werent quite ready to leave yet and 730s were early OR on the dot for their dinner slots. As a pathetic gesture of hospitality, 1 or 2 of their staff gave out small plastic cups of coke to those of us who were waiting and getting increasingly sullen. See again, PATHETIC being the keyword here. The other Italiannies staff looked the other way while the cokes were served, and newcomers waiting in line were not served any drinks.

Bebe and i even had to share a coke because he had gone to check out the temporary-borrowed dining arrangements setup at Laundry, 2nd floor. That was terrible, to say the least. We, the wanna-dine-at-Italiannies peeps are there for the food, atmosphere and service! What in the whole wide blinking moon would we be doing there if we said okay to being shunted to some smoky, dreary area to dine on a special Vday Italiannies dinner set?? What's more, the Italiannies staff didnt dare promise us if it was going to be too noisy and smoker-crowded up there. Of course it was a big NO from the word go and we waited amongst other couple for our turn to dine indoors. Thank gawd it didnt take long, cos if the mood was lost no amount of apologies or flowers could revive it.

Muka (Suay) Buku

I do think prolonged absences from my blog can be attributed to work; or the fact that like a homing pigeon, i zoom head-on into my room to listen to country, read my TIME mag or novel.

My lack of blogging can also be attributed to facebook (that, and a few other things also la). Facebook's pretty messy, and not to mention annoying too. That said, i'm sure friends have noticed my lack of interest whatsoever in werewolves, bumbling bibbersquacks and other such ninnys. These days, i remember to check in on facebook only after i see tons of irritating notifications in my inbox. Btw, how does one get rid of the email notifications? I already pre-set my notifications settings as desired but still all the nonsense flock into my mail box! GRRRRRRR...

Anyways, that thread is exhausted so i'll move on to the next episode.
